THE LULULEMON DUPE MATH

One Pair of Lululemon = Two VEIMIA Flare Pants + S$40. That Math Is Hard to Unsee.

There was a time when the “Lululemon dupe” conversation was basically:

“How many cheap leggings can I buy for the price of one premium pair?”

I think there is a better question now.

How many pairs do I actually want to wear — and what am I giving up by spending less?

WHY EXPENSIVE ACTIVEWEAR CAN STILL MAKE SENSE

Let’s start with something the “dupe” internet rarely admits: expensive leggings can be worth it.

If you wear activewear constantly, a pair that fits properly, moves well and survives your weekly rotation can absolutely earn its place in your wardrobe.

That is part of the reason premium activewear became premium activewear.

The problem begins when we quietly turn:

“I really like this product”

into:

“Therefore every pair of leggings I buy must cost around the same.”

Those are two very different statements.

A great premium product doesn’t automatically mean every cheaper alternative is a compromise.
THE MATH

At regular price, the wardrobe math gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.

lululemon Groove Nulu S$158 Regular listed price

Two VEIMIA pairs currently total S$118.

That is still S$40 below the S$158 regular price of one lululemon Groove.

Black + Brown.
Black + Gray.
Two different outfits — still below one regular-price Groove.
Fairness matters here: the lululemon Singapore product page checked for this article also showed selected colour pricing at S$110, reduced from S$158. So the “two pairs for less than one” comparison is specifically based on Groove’s regular price, not every temporary sale price.
CHEAPER IS NOT THE GOAL

Buying five bad dupes is not smarter than buying one good pair.

This is where I think the old-school “dupe math” gets silly.

If one premium pair costs S$158 and a random cheap pair costs S$20, the goal should not automatically be:

“Great. I’ll buy seven.”

You still have to ask whether the cheaper pair actually solves the same wardrobe problem.

Does it stay high enough?

Does the silhouette work?

Is the fabric built for movement?

Can you wear it outside the gym?

And with flare pants especially: does the cut make your legs look intentional, or just make the hem wider?

WHY THIS PAIR CAUGHT MY ATTENTION

VEIMIA isn’t just selling “cheap black yoga pants with a wider hem.”

The product is built around a more specific silhouette:

VEIMIA flare yoga pants tummy waist control butt shaping thigh sculpting micro flare

Official VEIMIA visual: waist control, hip shaping, thigh sculpting and micro-flare proportion.

1

Does the waist actually do anything?

The current design uses a 12cm high-rise waistband positioned for gentle tummy control and reduced rolling.

2

Is the flare just decorative?

VEIMIA describes it as a micro-flare cut: closer through the upper leg, then gradually opening below the knee to visually lengthen the lower body.

3

Is it actually intended for more than one outfit?

The product is positioned for yoga, workouts, commuting and everyday wear, which is exactly where flare leggings become more useful than standard gym tights.

THE 12CM DIFFERENCE

The waistband is probably the first thing I would compare before the logo.

VEIMIA flare yoga pants 12cm high rise waistband gentle tummy control

VEIMIA official 12cm high-rise waistband visual.

High-rise is not one universal feeling.

One waistband can feel soft and almost invisible.

Another can feel more deliberately supportive.

VEIMIA is clearly leaning toward the second idea here:

A waistband that is supposed to participate in the silhouette, not simply sit at the top of it.
HIP SHAPING

And the rear construction is not pretending to be neutral either.

VEIMIA butt lifting flare yoga pants shaping rear contour
Lift & Sculpt The rear seam design is positioned to create a rounder, smoother-looking contour.
VEIMIA flare yoga pants different body types M L XL
Different proportions The current official visual shows the flare silhouette across different listed body weights and sizes.

This is where VEIMIA moves away from the “barely-there” philosophy and toward a more obvious shaping story.

That will not be everyone’s preference.

But if waist, hip and thigh contour are specifically what you want, then comparing only brand names misses the point.

THE FABRIC QUESTION

Here is where I would not use the word “identical.”

lululemon Groove uses the brand’s Nulu fabric, with the body currently listed as 81% nylon + 19% Lycra elastane.

VEIMIA lists 80% nylon + 20% spandex.

Yes, the fibre percentages are surprisingly close.

No, that does not mean the fabrics are the same.

VEIMIA flare yoga pants fabric construction chafe free seams butt lift detail

VEIMIA official detail showcase: fabric surface, seams and rear construction.

Fabric percentage can tell you what fibres are present. It cannot tell you the exact knit, finish, density, compression or hand feel.

If Nulu itself is the reason you buy lululemon, that is a real reason.

A cheaper pair does not need to pretend otherwise.

WHAT DOES THE EXTRA MONEY BUY?

The useful comparison isn’t “expensive vs cheap.” It’s “different advantages vs S$99.”

Question lululemon Groove VEIMIA Flare Yoga Pants
Regular / current listed price S$158 regular S$59 current
Fabric 81% Nylon + 19% Lycra Elastane 80% Nylon + 20% Spandex

Shaping emphasis Not the main product story Waist, hip and thigh contour
Sizing Broader US numeric sizing S / M / L / XL
Use Yoga + casual Yoga + workout + commute + everyday
This is a specification and value comparison, not a claim that the two products are manufactured or perform identically.
WHAT DO YOU GIVE UP FOR S$59?

A cheaper alternative is only useful if we talk about what it doesn’t give you too.

VEIMIA does not give you Nulu.

It does not give you lululemon’s broader numeric sizing system.

It does not automatically give you the same compression, surface feel or flare geometry.

And if you already know the Groove fits your body perfectly, that certainty has value.

The point is not that S$59 magically erases every reason someone buys lululemon.

The point is that those reasons now have a very specific price difference attached to them.

THE TWO-PAIR WARDROBE

This is where the price difference stops being abstract.

At S$59, a second colour does not feel like buying the same expensive product twice.

VEIMIA dark gray black flare yoga pants
Black / Dark Neutral The safe pair: gym, airport, coffee, black knit, oversized shirt.
VEIMIA brown high rise flare yoga pants
Brown The pair that starts looking less like gymwear with cream, white, beige and tonal knits.
Two S$59 pairs: S$118.

One Groove at regular price: S$158.

The difference is not only “save S$40.”

It is:

Do I want one premium pair?

Or do I want two colours that cover more of my actual wardrobe?
WHY FLARE MAKES THE MATH BETTER

Flare yoga pants have one advantage normal leggings don’t: they can stop looking like gym leggings.

VEIMIA flare yoga pants leisure commute gym to street

That matters because cost-per-wear is not only about how many workouts you do.

It is about how many situations the same pair can realistically survive.

  • Yoga or Pilates
  • Gym warm-up or lighter training
  • Coffee afterwards
  • Airport and travel
  • Weekend errands
  • Casual office styling with a long shirt or blazer
A pair you wear to three different parts of your life can be better value than a cheaper pair you only tolerate at home.

  • Thigh and leg sculpting
  • Micro-flare cut
  • 80% Nylon + 20% Spandex

WHICH ONE MAKES MORE SENSE?

There are two completely reasonable answers.

A

Buy the lululemon Groove if…

You already know you love Nulu, you want the Groove’s exact silhouette, you benefit from lululemon’s more granular sizing, and the price difference is not important to you.

B

Look at VEIMIA if…

You mainly want a flattering high-rise flare, you like a more explicit shaping design, you want gym-to-street versatility, or you would rather put the same budget toward more than one colour.

The smarter buy is not automatically the cheaper one.
It is the one whose advantages you will actually use.
THE LULULEMON DUPE QUESTION

I think we’ve been asking the wrong question.

Instead of:

“How many cheap dupes can I buy for one Lululemon?”

ask:

“How much of what I love am I actually paying the extra S$99 for?”

If the answer is: Nulu, the precise Groove fit, and lululemon’s sizing system, the premium may make sense.

If the answer is mainly: high waist, flattering hips, longer-looking legs and a flare silhouette…

Two pairs for S$118 becomes very difficult to ignore.
